• Sketch your mesh!

Mesh From Mask is an amazingly fast and simple collection of brushes (MeshExtrude, MeshBalloon, MeshSplat, and MeshExtrudePropDepth) for creating basic meshes that you will then sculpt using other ZBrush feature sets. Just outline the shape you want with the lasso masking. ZBrush will instantly convert the described shape into an editable mesh. You can then go straight to sculpting or continue to refine the outline – adding, subtracting, or cutting holes. When you edit a shape, the resulting model is updated in real-time so you don’t have to guess what the result will be. This function offers two different modes. A precise flat shape is created with uniform thickness and a controlled slope, as shown above. The other mode creates soft organic shapes in a thicker balloon-like effect where the closed shapes are wide and thin near the corners as shown below. Lasso, circle, rectangle, and curve line types are supported, as is alpha. The Selection Brush now also supports smooth and precise control of the lazy mouse.

• Alpha 2D extrusion along the curve

The new Curve Alpha brush takes any 2D alpha and extrudes it along the curve like real geometry! It’s great for quickly creating locks of hair or sleek horns, twisting and tapering along the curves you create. The curve can then be changed if you want to improve its shape. The IMM Curve brushes have also been updated so that they can use a flat mesh as an extrusion profile to create a similar result. The new ExtrudeProfile brushes work the same, except that they use the “Flat” option of the Alpha palette to transform the 3D mesh into a silhouette to sweep along the curves.

• Discover new shapes

Give your imagination a boost! The new SnakeCurve brush works with Sculptris Pro mode, allowing you to draw curves on models and then drag them off the surface to create beautiful organic extrusions. Depending on where you click on the curve to move it and how fast it is drawn, the curve will organically rotate as it moves to cause variations in the extruded geometry.

• True ambient ray tracing occlusion

Ambient Occlusion is a rendering feature that tracks light rays as they make contact with your model’s surface, either reflecting directly to your eye or being captured by variations in the surface, specifically surrounding details. The shadows thus gather in areas close to other surface features. It can be very subtle but has a huge effect on the realism of your lighting. With AO Boost, your model details really stand out. This improved version of ambient occlusion masking is easy to use with only basic controls for intensity and smoothing. It even respects other SubTools, which means you have complete freedom to divide your model into sections that best suit your sculpting needs while being sure that you will get a great look when you’re done. And yes, like the older version of Ambient Occlusion, you can use these shadows to create a mask, which you can then use with a warp or brush to further sculpt your model.
